About Lowkey — Family-Owned Cannabis Dispensary in West Roxbury

Good cannabis, fair pricing, no extra noise. A neighborhood-rooted dispensary at 5268 Washington Street, founded by Jeff Similien.

Lowkey is a family-owned recreational cannabis dispensary at 5268 Washington Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132. We carry flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, and tinctures from leading Massachusetts brands, plus our own in-house neighborhood-named line — Dorchester Diesel, Blue Hill Dreams, Roxbury Runtz, and Orange Line. We’re open daily from 10 AM to 9 PM. Our MA Cannabis Control Commission license is MR284730. Founder Jeff Similien — a Haitian-American entrepreneur raised in Dorchester — built Lowkey to be the neighborhood spot he wished he’d had growing up: good cannabis, fair pricing, no extra noise.

A neighborhood shop, not a chain

Lowkey isn’t a national brand wearing a local skin. We’re a single-storefront, family-owned dispensary in West Roxbury. The shop is run by people who know the neighborhood — and built it to feel like one. Stop in and you’ll meet our budtenders by name. Ask them what’s on the shelf this week, and they’ll actually tell you what they’d grab for themselves.

Our archetype is the everyman with a quiet rebel edge. We don’t do stoner clichés. We don’t do corporate luxury cannabis. We do good product, in a clean space, with people who treat you the way you’d treat your own neighbor.

Jeff Similien — Founder & CEO

Meet the founder: Jeff Similien

Jeff Similien is a Haitian-American entrepreneur, born and raised in Dorchester. He’s the founder and CEO of Lowkey Dispensary, and the through-line that connects every part of this business.

Before cannabis, Jeff built a career in real estate. He earned a business management degree from Curry College and a real estate design, construction, and project management certificate from Boston University. He’s a licensed real estate broker in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and Georgia. He also founded Boston Trust Realty Group Commercial — a commercial brokerage in Mattapan Square that has brokered deals with Papa Johns, Dunkin Donuts, Frugal Furniture, and Boost Mobile — and The Co-Pad, a community co-working hub serving Mattapan, Dorchester, and Hyde Park.

Jeff entered the cannabis industry in 2016 after a client introduced him to a cannabis attorney. He spent the next several years traveling to Colorado, Washington, Florida, Las Vegas, Toronto, and California — touring facilities, studying operations, and figuring out what a truly community-rooted dispensary could look like. He committed to Boston, specifically Codman Square in Dorchester, where he grew up.

In December 2021 he secured the real estate at 571B Washington Street. In October 2023 — after seven years of work, a global pandemic, a ruptured Achilles tendon, both parents battling cancer, and the kind of legal and financial complications that come with breaking ground in a new industry — Lowkey Dispensary opened its doors in Codman Square.

Jeff is a former college and semi-professional football player (Boston Bandits), a father of two, and active in community work — mentoring high school and college students in real estate and entrepreneurship, volunteering with YouthBuild Boston, sponsoring Athletes Without Borders, and teaching football to low-income children in Costa Rica. The work he set out to do, both inside and outside the dispensary, is rooted in a simple idea: help the hard-working people of communities that have been written off find their footing and rebuild from where they stand.

From Codman Square to West Roxbury

Lowkey opened in Dorchester’s Codman Square in October 2023 — Jeff’s home neighborhood, and the place this brand was built for.

In 2025, a landlord dispute forced us to relocate at significant cost. The Codman Square shop closed, and Lowkey reopened in West Roxbury at 5268 Washington Street under a new legal entity, Lowkey 2, LLC. The CCC issued our final retail license in September 2025.

The move was painful. The mission wasn’t lost. Our community-equity roots — Black-owned, Boston-built, neighborhood-first — traveled with us to West Roxbury. Jeff’s broader ventures (Boston Trust Realty, The Co-Pad) keep our Dorchester ties live. The Dorchester founding chapter is the foundation. West Roxbury is where we serve from today.

Lowkey Dispensary — premium cannabis flower in West Roxbury, Massachusetts

The Lowkey in-house brand

Most dispensaries resell other people’s products. We do that too — we stock the strongest Massachusetts brands — but we also build our own line. Our in-house cannabis brand carries strains named after the Boston neighborhoods that shaped us:

  • Dorchester Diesel — named for the neighborhood that raised Lowkey
  • Blue Hill Dreams — for the Blue Hill Avenue corridor that runs through Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury
  • Roxbury Runtz — for Roxbury
  • Orange Line — for the MBTA Orange Line and the transit-spine neighborhoods it connects

Vapes are live on the menu now. Flower is planned as a follow-on format. The brand is curated by Jeff personally, and it draws on the research phase that took him across the country in the years before Lowkey opened.

Eat Good In Every Hood

Lowkey runs an ongoing cross-promotion with local restaurants called Eat Good In Every Hood. The premise is simple: cannabis and food go together, our customers eat in the neighborhood, and we’d rather lift up the local spots than push national chains. When you shop at Lowkey, ask a budtender what restaurant we’re partnered with this month — there’s usually a perk attached.

How we think about cannabis

We believe cannabis should be a normal part of an adult’s life — not a status play, not a punchline. Our shop is built around three rules:

  1. The product earns its place. Every brand on the shelf is tested for what we’d put in our own bodies.
  2. The price is fair. No “premium” markup that doesn’t match the actual quality. No bait-and-switch promotions.
  3. The experience is calm. No green walls. No “dude, the vibes” music. Just a clean space, knowledgeable staff, and a transaction that respects your time.

If you’re new to cannabis, we’ll take it slow. Start low, go slow. If you’ve been in the game for years, we’ll meet you where you are. Either way, you’re welcome here.

Community equity is the foundation

Lowkey is a Massachusetts Social Equity applicant. That status isn’t a marketing line — it’s the through-line of who Jeff is and how this business operates.

The cannabis industry was built on the backs of communities that were systematically over-policed and under-served. Massachusetts’ Social Equity and Economic Empowerment programs exist to begin to correct that — by lowering the barriers to ownership for the people most harmed by cannabis prohibition. Lowkey participates in those programs. We mentor other applicants when we can. We hire from the neighborhood. And we put real money behind community work outside the dispensary’s walls.

That’s what “family-owned, community-first” actually means here. Not a tagline. A structural commitment.
